Featured Deal: This pre-Black Friday deal lets you create a portable triple-screen setup. Posted 24 January - PM. Ive been using Bitdefender TS for 11 months. Back in first month or so, the scan too up to 2 hrs!. Gradually came down to avg 45 min to 75 min. Last week uninstalled with BD uninstaller and reinstalled clean. First system scan was just under 10 min! Today it took 3 min even tho I added 7 gb last night.
SSD is fast but I didnt change any hardware. If the uninstall was complete, how could the new install remember anything? Edited by hamluis, 24 January - PM. Emaphasis added - Hamluis. Action without vision is a nightmare. It is not uncommon for some security scans to take many hours while others finish quickly since scanning depends on a variety of factors. The speed and ability to complete an anti-virus or anti-malware scan depends on a variety of factors. The length of time for performing this type of scan varies because it is so comprehensive and therefore can take several hours.
As such, a Full scan is generally recommended only for heavily infected systems To speed up a scan , temporarily disable any other real-time protection tools you are using, close all open programs, do not use the computer during the scan , perform a Quick Scan instead of a Full one and schedule your scans for times of least computer activity..
You can also speed up a scan by using file exclusions What Files Should You Exclude? This is Microsoft's free built-in integrated anti-virus and anti-malware solution which provides the same level of protection against malware as Microsoft Security Essentials MSE provides on older operation systems plus enhanced protection against rootkits and bootkits and protection against potentially unwanted programs if that feature is enabled.
Microsoft has incorporated a number of significant improvements which make it competitive with other major anti-virus vendors including many paid for products. Windows Defender Exploit Guard has four components of new intrusion prevention capabilities designed to lock down a system against various attack vectors and block behaviors commonly used in ransomware attacks before any damage can be done.
This protects the files within these folders from being encrypted by a ransomware infection. System scans generally take just under an hour, so the scan time that you are reporting seems a bit unusual and odd to me. The "Quick Scans" run in under a minute, but the full "System Scans" take just under an hour on my computer.

Some files and services are locked by the operating system or running programs during use for protection , so security scanners may encounter problems attempting to access them.
Other legitimate files, especially those used by security programs, may be obfuscated , encrypted or password protected in order to conceal itself so they do not allow access as a protective measure.
When the scanner finds such an object, it makes a note and then just skips to the next one. That explains why it may show with such notations but no action taken in certain anti-virus or anti-malware log scan reports. It just means those files were scanned in the past and were clean. If no changes to the file have changed since last scan it skips them. Please register to post and access all features of our very popular forum. It is free and quick.
