Yeah, Windows 7 really needs at least 4GB Ram to run well. Windows 7 runs really well now. Once that comes in I'd planned on allocating 4GB to Windows. I had also planned on running Visual Studio , and I've heard it is fairly memory hungry. I will probably leave the x64 VM installed for my personal stuff, but the various Windows VM's I plan on setting up for work are all bit versions. For those I will install bit and allocate 3GB.

If performance is low, then try playing with the memory allocation. It really depends on what you're going to run in Windows. Allocate as much as you need, but if you really need that much RAM in Win7, then you really should consider going to bit versions. The "correct" amount is the amount you need to do your work.

I don't know of any program that won't run in 64 bit Windows. If a program does better in 32 bit mode then it will be installed in the 32 bit program directory of Windows. If it is a 64 bit program it will be installed in the 64 bit program directory. Visual Studio is not a real time graphic hog like some games.
