The level of ore and gems you find are random. If you charge up your hammer you'll have a better chance of finding the rarer ores and gems found in the cave, but you always have a chance of getting a rarer ones without charging. As you increase your Mining Skill you'll use less Rune Points to break open the rocks, and you have a better chance of finding really high leveled ores and gems. The items you do find can be given as gifts or used in crafting Weapons and Accessories.

Where can I get iron? I've tried breaking the rocks above the entrance in Carmite cave but I cannot find any. The only ore I can find is scrap iron! I've been searching non-stop for five days straight and I haven't found any iron. It's the beginning of spring and I have a cheap hammer, my mining skill is 15 and I've already made g in scrap iron! Is it usually this hard? Or am I just having bad luck or doing something wrong?
If anyone could give me tips on easier ways of getting iron or tell me if I'm doing something wrong it would be greatly appreciated.
